Best Predator Hunting Gear: The Best One That You Need

Written by Shawn Harrison

There is more to hunting predators than only making a good shot. Hunters have to consider things such as night hunting, outer gear for colder weather, baiting and calling. Then, you need to add a good quality rifle to your predator hunting gear. While some items, such as the calls, aren’t necessary, they make hunting easier and increase your likelihood of a successful day.

Timing and precision are two of the most important factors to predator hunting. Rifles are the top choice for predator hunting because of their accuracy and minimal recoil. If you were to use a shotgun, you don’t have the chance at a second or third shot. A rifle with minimal recoil and lets you fire in succession gives you a greater possibility of making the kill shot.

Predator gear

Researching your predator hunting supplies is important. It may take you a few weeks to find the right rifle in the right price range. Other items, such as the headlamp or electronic caller, may take less time to decide to use. No matter what you select, quality and durability are important factors. You will be out in the elements, which leads to a higher chance of damage and wearing down over time.

What Do You Need for Your Predator Hunting Supplies

Selecting the right predator hunting gear is important, especially for game calls and decoys. Animals are intelligent and can tell when a lure is made unrealistically. Some game calls sound nothing like the actual, real-life call. To increase the likelihood of attracting in your target, go with high-quality decoys and calls.

This is far from an extensive list of things you will need when you are hunting predators. For example, you will need a great jacket, but you should also consider purchasing hunting boots, pants, and gloves.

Predator hunting gear

You may decide to skip the pants and go for an overall set that will keep most of your body warm. If you live in a colder region, you need all of these items in your predator hunting gear.

One of the most important things is your rifle and scope. They will be your best friend out in the woods. Ideally, your gun will have a high velocity with a flat trajectory.

You want to be able to fire quickly after your first shot in case you miss, or there is a second animal. Also, you want to make sure your firearm doesn’t weigh too much because it will be cumbersome to carry around the woods.

I would love to hear about your favorite predator hunting supplies. Let us know in the comments!

The Barronett is an awesome blind perfect for two or three gun hunters to hunt out of easily. It is incredibly well built, with plenty of room, has a decent camouflage pattern and is reasonably priced for a blind this size. The only small negative is the stakes which are provided with the blind, they’re too short and too smooth, I would personally recommend investing in some quality stakes if you decide to buy this product, otherwise you’ll be chasing it down like I did when the wind picked up.

    • Shawn Harrison

I agree that being too smooth is one of the slight problems with the Barronett. However, if you can manage with this slight inconvenience, it can be a very helpful gear to keep you getting into the hunt and improving your skills.

A decoy is an absolute must have for any yote hunter. Coyotes are curious creatures and having a decoy set out in the open works wonders for keeping the attention away from you, especially when coupled with a quality remote caller. However, despite their curious nature, coyotes are also cautious and cunning and will often circle around and try to come in downwind of the call, so be sure to make sure you’re well camouflaged and that there is a fair amount of distance between you, the call and the decoy.

    • Shawn Harrison

I agree, Seth. The importance of decoys are often not appreciated not because they don’t work, but they require a little bit of mastery. Coyotes are some of the main targets that decoys can be purposely used, and it will keep your experience worthwhile during and after the hunt.

Not only that that I found out what sort of kit I can buy for hunting, but also what other sorts of accessories I need. Really a phenomenal article, Shawn! I already own a Ruger Rifle (my father’s) and it is what Shawn says about it. Although needs a little more maintenance, but it is an amazing rifle! Thank you Shawn for educating me with your tips! Really helped me out!

    • Shawn Harrison

Hand-me-down firearms may require a little bit of maintenance, but they still work. This is a good starting point for you, Sophie, which will only require you to complete the basic accessories that you need.
