“I am prepared for the worst, but hope for the best.” – Benjamin Disraeli

“Prepared for the worst” is a phrase whose intensity changes with the situation. The ‘worst’ in the case of a wrong ingredient in your cake recipe is very much different from the ‘worst’ if you are stranded on a deserted island all by yourself.
Do you have an adventure planned anytime soon? Have you packed everything that you need? If the answer to both the questions is yes then we couldn’t be any happier.

However, we want you to be extra safe considering that you might come across some unforeseen forces of nature and that’s why we’ve reviewed some of the best paracord bracelets for you. Whether it is fishing, hunting, shelter, navigation or fire starting in the wilderness; the question still remains, are you prepared for the worst?

Paracord Survival Bracelets

It isn’t any ordinary bracelet that you wear for decorative or appearance enhancement purposes but rather as the name suggests is a vital survival tool that will help you stay prepared at all times in any survival situation. A more technical definition of a paracord bracelet is as follows.

Paracord Survival Bracelets

“A paracord bracelet is a survival bracelet that is woven or designed out of paracord.”

Paracord bracelets are popularly known as 550 cord bracelets since most paracord bracelets use military grade 550lbs parachute cord for the build or the strand weaving.

It undoubtedly is an incredibly useful tool and to carry a survival bracelet that is 10 to 16 feet long around your wrist is always a plus. Paracord survival bracelets are manufactured by various manufacturers and they come with additional tools at times too.

Whistles, easy release buckles, fire starter rod and knife are some of the additional tools that typically come along with a paracord survival bracelet.

Uses Of Paracord Survival Bracelet

Out of the many critical applications of such bracelet, a few of the most important uses have been described below as follows:

  • First aid applications: You must be wondering how a paracord bracelet can be used to stop your finger from bleeding you out. Well, a paracord bracelet is used for different sorts of medical emergencies.
The first and foremost medical application or first aid application of such bracelet is that it can be used to move an injured or wounded patient, survivalist or adventurer from one location to another. You simply need to lay down the patient in some sort of hard, flat and gliding surface and the paracord will easily help you do the rest.
  • Hunting or Fishing: Paracords or parachute cords are extremely strong, durable and completely rot proof. With a material that high grade in build, it goes without saying that the applications for winging or catching prey are limitless.
  • Wilderness Survival: A survival bracelet can do wonders when it comes to survival per se. Erecting a tent will become a minute job if you simply stretch the cord out entirely and put up a sheet over it. Shelter building is one of the most important applications of a paracord survival bracelet.

Features to Consider Before Selecting A Paracord Bracelet

It is very common to find yourself in a dilemma while selecting a paracord survival bracelet.

Paracord Survival Bracelets features

Most of the high-end or premium survival bracelets offer and promise a lot of safety features and additional tools that is bound to make you wonder which the best ones among those are. The following are a few features that you should consider prior to making your final pick.

  • Cord Type: As I’ve mentioned earlier, the majority of the premium survival bracelets are manufactured with strong parachute cords with breaking strengths of up to 550lbs. It is pretty much the top most quality cord you can find in the market and is a safe one to use as well. There are a few bracelets that use type II or 400lbs paracord material. Ensure to see if the paracord material are actually type I or type II before you buy it.
  • Cord Length: This is a very important factor to consider before you make your final pick for your paracord survival bracelet. Most cords can disassemble to at least 10 feet however you can even find a few top brands offering paracord bracelets that open up to even 20 feet in length on complete disassembly.
Choose the one that unravels the most. You don’t want a short paracord since a lot of its applications are based on the length of the cord itself.
  • Tools: You know how humans have the tendency to buy things that come with additional gifts; well picking a paracord bracelet is very much like that. A lot of manufacturers offer a ton load of other survival tools that you will require to ease your survival run.
Some of the more popular tools included with paracord bracelets are compass, knife slide, whistle, and magnesium fire starter rod. Go with the bracelet that offers the majority of these tools in the package.
  • Pricing: Much like any other purchase, a paracord bracelet comes at different prices depending on the manufacturer and the features it accompanies with it. Choose the one which is more budget friendly to you.

Whether I’m heading to the supermarket or the Sahara, I never leave home without a paracord bracelet on my wrist.

The one I am currently wearing is from The Friendly Swede family (The Friendly Swede Paracord Survival Bracelet Bundle, to be specific) that I received as a birthday gift.

These bracelets are very well made, with a tight weave and melted ends and are attractively designed with great color accents, so they can be worn day-to-day. I personally wear the 8″ size which fits me perfectly (an average sized woman), however, men or larger women would perhaps be better with the next size up.

Unlike many manufacturers, The Friendly Swede company are forthcoming with the rated load, these ones specifically have a rated load of 350 lbs. I have yet to unravel either bracelet to examine the condition of the paracord when loose, but I suspect it will be high-quality.

I highly recommend these to any backpacker, camper or hiker.

I can’t recommend paracord bracelets more than enough. They are made of durable material, and they don’t fall short in being stylish as they come in a wide variety of color combinations. I really believe this is the ideal accessory for the avid backpacker or camper regardless of hobby or experience level!

  • Sophie Habron

I’ve worn a few different paracord bracelets in the past, though they’ve only ever been the standard type i.e. cord and clip. After having to unravel my previous bracelet on a recent camping trip, I bought the Survival WRAPS Emergency Paracord Bracelet and it’s, by far, the best I’ve ever worn. Though the cord is clearly made from a strong and durable material the added survival tools are what I love the most. This bracelet comes with a fire starter (magnesium rod & eye knife scraper) and a compass which are both great additions. I love it.

    • Dennis Owens

Paracord bracelets, even the most basic ones can be really helpful outdoors. Throwing some multitool function such as firestarter or mini-blade definitely amplifies its efficacy a lot more. The most common ones include a standard-issue compass. I’m glad that you liked your paracord bracelet!
